Free SAT

Eleventh grade students across Montgomery County will be able to take the SAT for free this year. The test will be offered at all four high schools on Wednesday, October 19. Students do not need to register in advance to take the test.

In order to help ensure that students have the best test-taking environment, snack and lunch will be provided at no cost to the student during the test.

On the day of the test, students will choose whether or not they want their SAT scores submitted to a local college – this is not a requirement.

“We are fortunate to partner with the College Board on this initiative,” said Superintendent Mark Miear. “Offering the SAT for free and during the school day is another way of leveling the playing field to ensure that all of our students have the opportunity to go to college if that is their chosen path.”

Parents and students will receive reminders, tips and SAT practice items in advance of the test to help them prepare.

MCPS is one of four districts in the state to offer the program, sponsored by the College Board. The free SAT allows for the College Board to pilot the new online version of the test versus the paper test. Students will be randomly selected for one version of the test on the testing day.
