A collaborative educational initiative has successfully ushered a new group of prospective lifesavers into the medical field. Six MCPS students recently celebrated the completion of a rigorous Emergency Medical Technician course, marking a significant milestone in a specialized partnership between Montgomery County Fire and EMS, RU Carilion, and Montgomery County Public Schools.
The program, designed to bridge the gap between high school education and professional healthcare certification, concluded with a ceremony where the cohort received certificates of completion. This vocational pathway allows students to gain hands-on clinical experience and technical knowledge while still integrated within their local school system.
By successfully completing the curriculum offered through RU Carilion, these individuals have cleared the primary hurdle to entering the workforce. They are now officially eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam. Passing this national certification is the final step toward becoming licensed providers capable of responding to emergencies and serving the community in ambulances and fire departments.
