Cell Phone Free Education

Cell phone use by students during the school day, including but not limited to class time, examinations, and other educational activities, is strictly prohibited. Cell phone use is prohibited during the school day at all school-sponsored activities, both on and off school premises, unless expressly permitted by a staff member with prior permission granted from the school principal for educational or emergency purposes.

MCPS Student Cell Phone Policy

According to MCPS Policy 7-3.3 (Student Cell Phone Use Policy), students are prohibited from using cell phones and other devices during the school day. Exceptions are in place for IEP/504 Plan accommodations, medical reasons, and legal compliance.

In 2024, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed Executive Order 33 detailing a plan for a "cell phone-free education."

MCPS Cell Phone Free Weekend Challenge

MCPS is offering a summer challenge to families. Pick a weekend between June 1 and August 10, and complete a family "cell phone-free weekend." Complete the 48-hour challenge and fill out the survey about your experience for a chance to win a prize.

Take some time to "hang up and hang out" this summer.
