The MCPS Board recently approved the 2026-2027 school calendar. The calendar includes 181 school days with the first day of school for all students on August 11. August 10 will serve as a transition day for students entering kindergarten, 6th grade, and 9th grade. The last day of school for students will be Friday, May 28, 2027.

The transition day provides students entering a new school level with dedicated time to become familiar with the building, learn routines and procedures, and connect with teachers and staff before the full student body returns.

The school calendar includes fall Break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, and the Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Presidents’ Day holidays during the school year. Six teacher workdays are scheduled within the school year, plus additional teacher workdays before and after the school year starts and ends.
