The Blacksburg Middle School's band program has officially been named a Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors’ Association (VBODA) Honor Band for the 2025–2026 school year, marking one of the most elite distinctions a school music program can achieve in the Commonwealth.

To secure the Honor Band title, a program must demonstrate both ensemble precision and individual student talent. Blacksburg Middle School met the rigorous criteria by earning Superior ratings at District Concert Assessments for two ensembles and by having students selected for the prestigious All-District Band events. VBODA recognizes a Superior rating as the highest possible mark for a school band, signaling a professional level of preparation and musicality that stands out across the state.

This recognition continues a strong tradition of excellence at the school. Last year, the combined success of both the band and choir programs led to Blacksburg Middle School being named a Blue Ribbon School for the arts. This latest accolade reinforces the school's reputation as a powerhouse for music education, proving that the program is consistently one of the best not only in the district but throughout Virginia.

This honor reflects the deep dedication and collaboration of students, staff, families, and the entire Blacksburg community. By ensuring that students can fully participate in both academics and extracurricular opportunities, the school continues to provide a foundation where young musicians can truly thrive.
