The kitchen at Christiansburg High School was buzzing last week. Montgomery County Public Schools (VA) hosted its annual Future Chefs Challenge, bringing together the district’s most talented elementary school cooks for a high-stakes culinary showdown.

This year’s theme, "A Passport to Flavor," challenged 4th- and 5th-graders to create healthy, globally inspired dishes. After an evening of intense whisking and plating, the judges crowned Matthew King (of Falling Branch Elementary) the winner for his bold and flavorful Cajun chicken pasta.

1st Place: Matthew King - Cajun Chicken Pasta
2nd Place: Ellen Sproul - Banana & Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins
3rd Place: Leota Davis - Luxury Cauliflower & Cheese

Matthew will represent MCPS at the regional competition.
