The Montgomery County ACCE program is gearing up for a milestone summer event as organizers announce the 8th annual Race for ACCE fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, August 1.
The event serves as a critical engine for the Access to Community College Education (ACCE) program, which provides Montgomery County high school graduates the opportunity to attend New River Community College tuition-free. By removing financial barriers, the program allows local students to pursue higher education and workforce training without the burden of student debt.
The fundraiser has seen remarkable growth since its inception. Over the past seven years, the race and walk have generated more than $100,000 for local students. This success is fueled by a mix of generous community sponsors and individual participants who hit the pavement each year to support the next generation of professionals.
Last year’s event set a high bar, raising $22,000 for the cause. Organizers hope to build on that momentum this August by inviting residents of all fitness levels to participate in the race or walk.
Beyond the financial support, the ACCE program encourages community investment from the students themselves. To maintain their tuition-free status, participating students are required to complete 80 hours of community service annually and maintain a 2.5 GPA, ensuring that the benefits of the program circulate back into Montgomery County.
