Montgomery County Public Schools staff has strengthened its divisionwide approach to employee safety and compliance training, with staff completing a comprehensive series of online courses and assessments focused on creating safe, supportive, and professional school environments.
As part of an increased emphasis on consistent training across the division under Superintendent Dr. Kelly Guempel, MCPS employees are completing courses through Vector Training, a K-12 training and learning management platform from Vector Solutions. Employees are required to complete assessments associated with their assigned training and achieve a passing score, ensuring staff demonstrate an understanding of the material.
“The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff are important responsibilities for everyone who works in Montgomery County Public Schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Kelly Guempel. “This training provides a consistent foundation across our division and reinforces the high expectations we have for everyone who serves our students.”
MCPS employees completed training on a wide range of topics related to their responsibilities as school division employees. These included child abuse and mandatory reporting, staff-to-student sexual misconduct, bloodborne pathogens, FERPA and confidentiality of records, student mental health awareness and intervention, ethics in the workplace, Title IX compliance, and maintaining professional staff-student boundaries. Additional training addressed staff-to-staff sexual harassment, restraint and seclusion, drug-free workplace requirements, workplace bullying awareness and prevention, students experiencing homelessness, de-escalation strategies, workplace injury prevention, health emergencies, and fire extinguisher safety.
The divisionwide approach helps establish consistent expectations for employees throughout MCPS while reinforcing division policies, applicable legal requirements, and staff members’ responsibilities to students, colleagues, and families.
Formerly known as SafeSchools Training, Vector Solutions' K-12 safety and compliance program is designed specifically for school employees and includes courses addressing human resources, Title IX and sexual harassment, health, student wellbeing, workplace safety, emergency management, and other areas.
