Gemini said A promotional poster for a "Future Chefs" culinary competition, calling all 4th and 5th graders. The theme is "Passport to Flavor: Take Your Taste Buds on a Global Adventure!", inviting students to create recipes inspired by different countries or cultures. It mentions the competition is "by Sodexo". One winner from each school will be chosen to compete in a contest at Christiansburg High School on March 20, 2026. The winner of that event will be entered into a "Future Chefs National Challenge" for prizes. The poster features a blue megaphone with a star and vegetables (onion, broccoli) coming out, another star with a pea pod, and a logo with a chef's hat and vegetables. A QR code is visible on the bottom right. The background is primarily yellow and white.

A huge thank you to our incredible MCPS custodians and facilities staff!

They have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to clear snow and ice from our parking lots and sidewalks. We are so grateful for their hard work to keep our schools safe and accessible after every round of winter weather.

Dear MCPS Community,

To prepare our buildings for school on Monday, the MCPS custodians and facilities staff have worked Saturday and Sunday to clear drifting snow and ice from our sidewalks and parking lots. Tomorrow morning's forecast calls for temperatures in the low teens with even lower windchills, though temperatures are expected to rise throughout the day. To ensure the safest start to the school day, our teams will again be out early in the morning to treat any additional icing.

Due to the extreme cold temperatures forecasted for the overnight and morning hours, on Monday, Feb. 9, all MCPS schools and buildings will open two hours late for students and 10-month staff. All 11 and 12-month non-instructional employees may report to work one hour late. Code Blue.

Please be safe as you travel to school in the morning. We are excited to welcome students and staff back to school. I’d like to thank our custodians and facilities crews for their hard work over the last few weeks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we navigated the winter weather over the last two weeks.

Sincerely,

Kelly Guempel, Ed.D

Dear MCPS Community,

Due to the overnight forecast indicating an increased chance of hazardous weather at the peak of dismissal, on Friday, February 6, all MCPS schools and buildings will be closed to students and 10-month staff - Code Yellow Virtual Learning Day. 11 and 12-month non-instructional employees should report to work on time as safety permits.

For more detailed information on student assignments, attendance, and meal services, please visit: https://www.mcps.org/page/virtual-learning-hub

Meals will be available for pickup at Auburn High School, Christiansburg High School, Price’s Fork Elementary School, and Shawsville Middle School from 9-11 a.m. One day’s worth of meals will be provided. Parents and guardians may pick up meals for students, but they must be able to provide their student’s name, school, and, if possible, student number.

Students must complete attendance by 10 a.m. Elementary school parents and guardians may complete the virtual check-in for students. Middle and high school students must complete the form themselves. A link will be sent directly to middle and high school students.

Elementary school students should continue any remaining assignments or visit the Virtual Learning Hub on the MCPS website to find reading, writing, and math assignments for each grade level. Paper copies are available for pick up at each school.

Please stay safe over the weekend, and we look forward to our eventual return to the classroom soon.

Sincerely,

Kelly Guempel, Ed.D

After further evaluation of road conditions throughout Montgomery County, MCPS will be closed - Code Red. All MCPS schools and buildings will be closed to students and staff. Only essential personnel should report to work.

Safety is paramount, and we cannot effectively and safely bring our students and staff to school today. We were prepared for virtual learning, but after last night’s weather, road conditions are too treacherous this morning to bring our staff to support meal distribution, assist with student check-in, and provide academic and technical support.
